Tambo Wine is a quality focussed, family owned and operated, single vineyard winery located near the Gippsland Lakes in East Gippsland.
Fruit concentration, complexity, balance, length and sense of place are at the heart of great wine. These are characters which can be formed only in the vineyard.
Our primary task at Tambo Wine is to grow grapes with these characters which express the site and to maintain the essence of this fruit character to the bottle. There is no compromise taken in achieving this end.
James Halliday, (Australia’s leading wine writer and wine judge), has rated Tambo Wine as a 5 star winery as an:
Outstanding winery capable of producing wines of very high quality; and
A combination of pure varietal expression and intensity of flavour permeates all Tambo wines
Bill and Pam Williams are fully committed to seeing Tambo Vineyard recognised as one of Australia’s great single vineyards.
Bill and Pam Williams own and operate the vineyard and winery and Alastair Butt makes the wine. Alastair Butt had a distinguished oenological upbringing prior to his arrival in East Gippsland in 2007. Between 1983 and 2003 he was winemaker at Seville Estate in the Upper Yarra Valley, thus incumbent when Brokenwood (in the Hunter Valley) acquired a majority shareholding in Seville Estate in 1997.
This brought him into frequent contact with PJ Charteris, senior winemaker at Brokenwood. Another was Matt Harrop, then establishing Shadowfax in Geelong. Butt says these two taught him much about the last step in a process beginning with the grapes in the vineyard, then fermentation and maturation, and finally – and most importantly – deciding which barrels should be used in a particular wine.
Alastair shares Bill and Pam’s uncompromising pursuit of producing wine of very high quality which reflect this single vineyard site.
Tambo Wine has a cellar door that is open 11 to 5 every day during summer holidays. Other times 11 to 5 Thursday to Sunday, or by appointment. Tambo Wine is available any time at
