The Lightfoot family own what is quite frankly an amazing spot of remote terrior in the Gippsland Lakes District.  What they have named the Myrtle Point Vineyard is the heart of their estate and family wine business.

It’s a finger-like plateau laced with clay-red terra rossa top soil with a beautiful seam of limestone running through the whole vineyard, the obvious secret to their success with their core varieties, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Shiraz.

The Myrtle Point Vineyard was planted over three years from 1995 on onwards by Helen and Brian Lightfoot.  Today, sons Rob and Tom manage the family’s vineyard and winery, embracing sustainable viticulture and both traditional and experimental winemaking.  Dedicated to making wines that reflect the unique character of the place from which they are from, Lightfoot Wines express the cool maritime climate and the unique geology of the vineyard.

Their cellar door has panoramic views of the Myrtle Point vineyard, Lindenow Valley and Great Dividing Range, and is a must-visit for those sunset shots.

The first vines were planted at Myrtle Point Vineyard by Helen and Brian Lightfoot in 1995.   While no longer involved in the daily operations, they maintain a very keen interest in all aspects of the of the vineyard and winery.

Lightfoot Wines now are made by Alastair Butt and Tom Lightfoot.  Alastair brings more than 25 years of winemaking experience to the winery working previously at Seville Estate (Yarra Valley) and Brokenwood (Hunter Valley).  Tom worked a number of vintages in wineries throughout Australia and the USA (making Pinot Noir in Oregon) after completing a Viticultural Science and Wine Production degree. Tom now manages the Myrtle Point vineyard and assists Alastair in winemaking.
