Blue Gables

Blue Gables is a small boutique vineyard in East Gippsland and boasts six varieties spread across 9 acres: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese & Shiraz.

We strive to produce premium quality wine, year on year.

Situated high on a hill, we have an exposed site that is warmer than most in Gippsland by day, yet with the absence of any sea breeze, our nights cool off significantly. These day/night temperature extremities are perfect for viticulture and this unique microclimate has resulted in the wines displaying intense varietal flavour and elegance.

The vineyard is appropriately named after the picturesque farmhouse on the property where Alistair & Catherine Hicks and their family live.

The inspiration for building a vineyard on this site all began when visiting Catherine's family home at Upper Maffra West. Catherine's father Keith, a dairy farmer of some 42 years on the property, wanted an idea for utilising the infertile ground that he could not irrigate. The "hill", as it was commonly known, had an ideal north facing slope, so the possibility of growing grapes was a topic always of much discussion. The first vines were planted in 2004.

We crop at lower yields to concentrate the flavour of our fruit which is hand-picked  to ensure we end up with wines of premium quality and character.

Our first vintage was 2009, and our wines are made by Alastair Butt and Tom Lightfoot of Lightfoot Wines.

In 2023, we have were awarded the Most Successful Exhibitor at the 2023 Westpac Gippsland Wine Show, after winning four of the Best in Class varietals: Pinot Noir, Rose, Shiraz and Best Other Red for our 2022 Sangiovese. Our 2022 Ashton Pinot Noir picked up the competitive top gold and trophy in the Pinot Noir class with 96 points, with three other Gippsland wines achieving gold.
